A previously used SpaceX rocket has launched a communications satellite for Luxembourg defense uses.
The satellite will be operated by LuxGovSat, a joint venture between Luxembourg sat-services provider SES and the government of Luxembourg. The satellite was built by aerospace contractor Orbital ATK of Dulles, Va., and will provide military X-band and Ka-band communications links in support of Luxembourg’s NATO obligations.
The SES launch had been set for a day earlier until a scrub to address an issue with a second-stage sensor.
In October, Hawthorne, Calif.-based SpaceX launched a communications satellite whose capacity will be shared by SES and Englewood, Colo.-based broadband-services provider EchoStar.
