Lift-off came at 6:53 p.m. Dec. 7 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. The satellite was powered into orbit by a Delta IV using four solid rocket boosters.
Comprised of satellites once known as Wideband Gapfillers, the Wideband Global constellation is operated by the U.S. military.
The latest Wideband Global satellite was designed for boosted bandwidth, compared with previous SARCOMM sats, and also boasts heightened anti-jamming elements. Built by Boeing, it cost a reported $425 million.
