DirecTV recently launched a pair of satellites to expand capacity for 4K and Ultra HD television services.
The El Segundo, Calif.-based satellite TV provider used Arianespace’s Ariane 5 rocket in the May 27 dual launch. One satellite will be employed to service DirecTV’s U.S. customers; the other targets Mexico.
The satellites launched from the European Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana.
The U.S.-targeted sat was built by Airbus Defence and Space, and the one for Mexico service was built by Orbital ATK.
